If you're interested in playing with us in our pick-up games or in a tournament, drop me a line, or just show up in Umeda and wave your hands up and down and scream "Ultimate Frisbee" real loud and someone will call the police to take you away.
WHEN and WHERE?? General Information: UFO practices take place every Sunday afternoon, amidst the greenery of Yodogawa and its vast parklands. We meet on the northern side of the river at 2:00pm, which is an easy walk from Midousuji's Nishinakajima-minamigata station (that's two north of Umeda) OR Kyoto Hankyu's Minamikata Station (that's one local before Juusou). From the stations, walk south (towards Umeda) to the river and you should see some baseball fields next to the bridge. It's only about a 300m walk. Turn left and start walking. You will find us by noticing a lot of plastic flying in the air.
If the JR Kobe Line is more your style, maybe Juusoo is the best stop, then change trains to the Kyoto line. Get on a local train and go one stop to Minamikata. From the exit, turn left.
Ultimate is one of the greatest games in the world in my opinion because it:
A. Welcomes all levels of ability, from "What's a Frisbee?" to "My first child is Frisbee Whamo."
B. The sport is not solely about winning; it's about people getting together and having a great time socializing, as well as staying physically active.
C. It doesn't discriminate on age, gender, fitness level, nationality or religion...however, it does have a prejudice against people without arms.
D. You decide how much you want to play: I can't last more than a minute in a gym, but with sports, I'm always running until I pass out. If you want to sub out (you know, change with someone who is waiting to play), every five minutes, I don't really care, I just want you to have fun.
E. The game is self-officiating. The hope is that people will remember that it is just a game and isn't worth cheating for. Players are expected to play by the rules and call fouls on themselves (The Honor System!). If an infraction occurs, play is restarted in the way that best approximates what would have happened if the foul had not occurred.
F. It is a non-contact sport, so no worries about losing limbs (refer to Article C) or lost teeth...though some of you could use a trip to the dentist.
